Building Climate Justice Communities

The project’s final webinar focused on empowering communities to take climate justice action to create their own climate justice communities. This webinar discussed the project’s two toolkits, designed to equip all kinds of facilitators and conversation starters to change the way climate change is talked about in our communities and help them respond to the impacts of the climate crisis in their communities.

Toolkits

Feminist Communities for Climate Justice has produced two toolkits;

Creating Climate Justice Communities and Community Action for Feminist Climate Justice.

The two toolkits, created around the themes of ‘educate/agitate’ and ‘organise’ can be used on their own or in tandem with each other. Whilst designed with community workers in mind, the toolkits can be used by any kind of facilitators, including climate coaches; conversational hosts; community and adult educators; and anyone who facilitates a group who are interested in creating a better world for all.

Toolkits
Toolkit 1

Creating Climate Justice Communities

The ‘educate/agitate’ themed toolkit of the set, will help introduce readers to the impacts of the climate crisis on the day-to-day lives of communities, making climate change a more real and immediate issue, along with the solutions to recognise and respond to these impacts. It aims to inform community workers and facilitators and highlight existing and future injustices related to climate change which will impact those already marginalised in Irish society. The toolkit also covers climate impacts in Ireland on key areas of day-to-day life – energy & housing; transport; food; health; and care – to aid in showing climate change having an immediate impact in our lives now, not just in the future.

Community Action for Feminist Climate Justice

The ‘organise’ themed toolkit of the set, offers practical activities and exercises for communities to begin to unpack the climate crisis as a feminist issue and apply a feminist approach to their organising. The area of feminist climate justice and the work of transforming systems is long and slow because it’s about building relationships and challenging power. This toolkit offers a way into this topic and some activities to start building connections for this long-term and deep work. This toolkit is inspired by feminist popular education, and aims to allow complex issues around the climate crisis to be connected to everyday lives and experiences.
